GRILLED TILAPIA
INGREDIENTS
TILAPIA
- 4 tilapia fillets (about 6 ounces each), skin on or off
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 lemon, cut into wedges
MARINADE (Optional, for extra flavor)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
EQUIPMENT
- Outdoor grill or grill pan
- Small bowl (if marinating)
- Spatula
- Plate
INSTRUCTIONS
PREPARATION
- 1. Pat tilapia fillets dry with paper towels. This helps them get a nice sear.
- 2. If marinating, in a small bowl, whisk together olive oil, minced garlic, lemon juice, oregano, salt, and pepper.
- 3. Place tilapia fillets in the bowl with the marinade (or directly onto a plate if not marinating). If marinating, ensure fillets are coated evenly and let them sit for at least 15 minutes, or up to 30 minutes in the refrigerator. If not marinating, brush both sides of the tilapia fillets with 1 tablespoon of olive oil and season with salt and pepper.
GRILLING THE TILAPIA
- 4. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (around 375-450°F or 190-230°C). If using a grill pan, preheat it over medium-high heat on the stovetop.
- 5. Lightly oil the grill grates or grill pan to prevent sticking.
- 6. Place tilapia fillets on the hot grill. If the fillets have skin, place them skin-side down first.
- 7. Grill for 3-5 minutes per side, depending on the thickness of the fillets, until the fish is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork. Avoid overcooking, as tilapia can dry out quickly.
- 8. Gently flip the tilapia fillets with a spatula.
- 9. Cook for another 3-5 minutes, or until fully cooked. The internal temperature should reach 145°F (63°C).
- 10. Remove grilled tilapia from the grill and place on a plate.
- 11. Squeeze fresh lemon juice from the lemon wedges over the grilled tilapia before serving.
Enjoy your perfectly grilled tilapia! Serve it with your favorite sides like grilled vegetables, rice, or a fresh salad for a complete and satisfying meal. Experiment with different herbs and spices in your marinade to create your own signature grilled tilapia dish. Happy grilling!
